September 2023 Open Rough Collie Critique

Firstly, I would like to thank the officers and committee of West of England for asking me to judge for them, this is a society that I have supported for many years along with my mother, who I’m sure was watching over me today. Thank you also to the ladies who did the catering the food was delicious. Overall I was pleased with my entry and thank you to all that entered and accepting my decisions.

Rough Collies
Veteran Dog (2/1)
1st – Scamps Aaronwell Ayebeecee at Marketdene, what a lovely way to start the day, this 8 year old Tri was of good size, he had a sweet yet masculine expression, good eye, ears are a little wide, flat skull, reasonable neck leading to well laid shoulders, good depth of rib & chest, dentition is good, presented in excellent condition, coat of good colour, to be critical I would prefer his tail a
little longer, moved well for his age, I was pleased to award this mature gentleman Reserve Best Dog and Best Veteran in Breed, well done he is a credit to you.

Novice Dog (1/1)

Graduate Dog (3/1)
1st – Tilleys Ingledene Dark Moon Risin, 2 year old Tri, good head planes, well moulded foreface, flat skull, ears a tad wide, which wasn’t helped by his owner stripping off too much hair from around his head, which did cost him going further, as it made his expression a little hard, lovely length of neck, good lay of shoulders, deep chest, well sprung ribs, presented in lovely condition, one of
the better movers today.
2nd – Mellonies Altrakin Snow Slides on High (see Limit Dog).

Post Graduate (2/0)

1st – Van Mosseveld Ladnar Inaheartbeat, as soon as she walked in the ring she demanded my attention, beautiful shape in profile, completely balanced throughout, I wasn’t disappointed upon further examination, lovely head of correct proportions, sweet eye and expression , she used her ears to advantage, so attentive to her handler, good length of neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest and well sprung ribs, well bent stifle, strong hocks, coat of a lovely clear blue colour, with a sparkling white collar, groomed to
perfection, well handled and moved positively, I was pleased to award her Best Bitch, Reserve Best of Breed, and Best Puppy in Breed, in agreement with my co judge I was delighted to award her BEST PUPPY IN SHOW. I was told afterwards that this was her first show, not a bad start to her show career, good luck in the future, I’m sure she’ll have a bright future ahead of her.
2 nd – Mellonies Altrakin Star Dunes, 6 months sable & white, litter sister to MP winner, similar comments apply, head still needs to develop, flat skull, ears are a little wide, good length of neck, reasonable shoulders, good length of back, needs to mature in body, presented well, steady movement.

was spoilt by her tail carriage, which she carried a little high. Did enough for me in the challenge to award her Reserve Best Bitch, Well done.
